I think that ability should be nerfed but only good healing abilites that they have should be nerfed. If they want to be able to heal themselves they should have second class monk. Even blood renewal only gives you +6 hp per second with out armour upgrades and necromancers are meant to be good at healing themselves.
Try a necro with dark bond, blood renewal and mystic regen :P
I kinda agree with you though, but I really don't know what they are going to do with eles in future skill balance. An assassin is also quite bad at self heal, but the damage they dish out is of a level eles can only dream of. I'm really puzzled about the ele class, If i use an ele myself I use it for utility, not for damage. She blinds, weakens, knocks down, but she has quite a hard time at actually killing something. The other alternative is Searing Flames, which will also be toned down in the future I think and is utterly boring to play. Time will have to tell what role eles are going to play ImO, people say they have to be glass cannons, but I see (very useful) utility characters and nearly indestructible earth tanks.

I can't pass up a chance to make a swipe at this thread ^^

Ok, Ensign is completely right about eles. From a PvP perspective, anyhow. And Elite E-Management skills aren't worth the code they're coded with.

Now, My opinion. SF/GG is the only half decent fire combo. If the skill balance preview was anything to go by, this'll fall out of favour very soon. A lot of people have been calling for [skill]Sandstorm[/skill] to be nerfed as well, but that I do not agree with, because the 2 second cast time kills it, unless you take an anti-interrupt, which either means [skill]Glyph Of Concentration[/skill] or a limit on your choice of secondary profession. (Mesmer for [skill]Mantra Of Concentration[/skill] etc)
Either way, it means one less space on your skill bar that would be far better used by other skills. And okay, 730 damage per enemy in range over 10 seconds seems like a lot, but you can always just back off...

SF/GG does look a bit overpowered to remain unchanged, at 14 Fire it gives: 105 + 7*14 + 2*(47) = 297 and cost 15+2*5-2*8= 9 energy (without attunement ... with attunement one would even gain enerergy from it) in 7 seconds.

I like Sandstorm. I don't like the rest of Earth though. That line is seriously lacking in good, reliable DDs. Sitting around between Sandstorms waiting for something to get low, to Obs Flame it, does not strike me as a good character.

Plus you can't use Gale with Obs Flame.

Peace,

I can see why you are you are worried, despite assasins havign to go itno close combat they do have better armour than eles. I suppose also if you compare thier damaging abilities to necros, necros dotn do as much damage but heal for what they deal. Take vampiric gaze for example at highest lvl thats about 60 damage + you gain 60 health a difference of 120hp. Maybe eles could take the mass area damage class niche or something. Early on I think they have more than just flare for good skills, they have phionex which seems pretty good and people are still using it in the Ring of Fire.

The argument is null once you talk about mobs with higher armor levels (specifically those that are lvl 28+). The higher armor level means elementalist skills do low damage if it doesn't hit a caster (warriors/paragons/rangers are not good targets).
